An Exciting Announcement

Hi everyone – it’s exciting announcement day today. I’m finally able to share the details of that special project I’ve been working on for the last six months! So I’m just going to jump straight in and say it… I’ve written a knitting book! An actual, real-life, will-be-sold-in-bookshops knitting book. I’m not sure I’ve fully come to terms with that last bit yet! This is the reason why I launched my new site design last summer and then disappeared down a rabbit hole for a few months. Oops – bad planning on my part!

The day of the first exciting meeting in London

The day of the first exciting meeting in London

So what’s it all about? It started back in July last year when I was contacted by the craft team at Quadrille Publishing. They are responsible for creating some amazing books, including titles by Cath Kidston, Debbie Bliss and Erika Knight. Amongst these books is the popular Simple Makes series; a really cool, modern set of craft books. In the series already are books on felt, sewing, paper and crochet and I’m honoured to say that I’ll be contributing the knitting book to the series.

The Simple Makes books are fun and bright and really invite you into the craft with colourful open arms. There will be 20 projects in the knitting book, ranging from beginner to more advanced techniques – great for shiny-brand-new knitters and seasoned pros alike. From a beginners perspective, my aim was to design a succession of projects that made it possible to progress and learn new skills as you go.

Yarn haul

Selecting yarns for the first few projects

It’s been six months of ferocious knitting, swatching and writing and I’ve absolutely loved it. The design process is what I enjoy most about knitting – solving problems, realising new ideas and creating something unique. I took the projects and ideas with me everywhere I went; on work trips, out to dinner and even to a picnic blanket at a music festival. It was pretty hard to switch off! A big hello to 8 year old Tilly who introduced herself to me one afternoon at the festival and taught me to finger knit.

I’m so proud of the hard work that’s gone into this book. It looks incredible, which is all down to the amazing team at Quadrille, and I can’t wait for you to see it. The release date is 24th April, so mark your calendars and, if you’d like to, you can have a sneaky peek at the front cover and pre-order a copy of Knitting Smitten on Amazon!
